Take a voyage through time and relive the construction of this world renowned historic monument, built in the honor of the thousands of brave soldiers who died in combat. The construction began under Napoleon in 1806 but it was interrupted by the fall of the empire. The Arc de Triomphe was finally completed in 1836 under the reign of Louis-Philippe. Decorated with high and colossal reliefs, the structure was constructed exactly after the plans of its architect, Jean Chalgrin. Its platform offers a splendid view over Paris and most precisely over the Champs-Elysées, one of the most beautiful avenues in the world. On January 28, 1921, the body of the Unknown Soldier was buried under the main arch. It represents the combatants that have died heroically during the First World War. On its tombstone, the flame of Remembrance is revived each evening.
