The singular style of Albert Lorenz combines a sense of fantasy and exaggerated detail with an architectural command of reality making his work easily recognizable. He has won numerous honors and awards for his illustrations including the Gold Medal from the Los Angeles Society of Illustrators for his book, Metropolis, published by Harry N. Abrams, 1996 and the Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators, New York. He has received commissions from the American Institute of Architects, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Lorenz is Institute Distinguished Professor at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. His most recent books, Buried Blueprints - Maps and Sketches of Lost Worlds and Mysterious Places, 1999 and House, 1998 were both published by Harry N. Abrams. Abrams will publish his version of Jack and the Beanstalk, next year. He is still expanding his "Buried Blueprints" series and his newest project is a series of intricately illustrated maps, "Secret Scrolls". |
